The National Telecommunications and Information Administration is an agency in the U.S. Department of Commerce that serves as the executive branch agency principally responsible for advising the President on telecommunications and information policies. In this role, NTIA frequently works with other Executive Branch agencies to develop and present the Administration's position on these issues. Since its creation in 1978, NTIA has been at the cutting edge of critical issues. In addition to representing the Executive Branch in both domestic and international telecommunications and information policy activities, NTIA also manages the Federal use of spectrum; performs cutting-edge telecommunications research and engineering, including resolving technical telecommunications issues for the Federal government and private sector; and administers infrastructure and public telecommunications facilities grants. >


The Maryland Broadband Cooperative (MDBC) is a public/private partnership that promotes economic development through deployment of technology supporting infrastructures. The MDBC mission is to drive economic development through universal, open access to broadband services via a fiber optic network that serves rural Maryland by building an advanced, world-class broadband network across the rural communities of Eastern, Southern, and Western Maryland supported by members who provide "Last Mile" services.


State of Maryland

The Maryland Governor's Office In support of the State Broadband Data and Development Program being managed by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley chose the Maryland Broadband Cooperative, Inc. (MDBC) to lead the Maryland Broadband Mapping Initiative to collect, validate, and map the service coverage areas and market performance of every Broadband service provider in the State of Maryland.

The Maryland State Geographic Information Office (GIO) is responsible for coordinating mapping and geographic information system (GIS) efforts within State government and with the GIS community in Maryland. This office is a key partner in the Maryland Broadband Mapping Team. The GIO Office is housed within the Maryland Department of Information Technology.

The Department of Business and Economic Development mission is to create, attract, and retains jobs while promoting Maryland's vibrant cultural economies. As Maryland’s one-stop economic development shop, the agency strives to attract new businesses, stimulate private investment, encourage the expansion and retention of existing companies, and provide Maryland business with workforce training and financial assistance. The Department markets local products and services at home and abroad.


Towson University

The Center for GIS (CGIS) at Towson University is a self-supporting professional organization within the University's Division of Economic and Community Outreach that applies GIS technology to strategic opportunities and tactical challenges in government, business, and non-profit organizations. CGIS is dedicated to making GIS technology accessible and relevant.

Regional Economic Studies Institute (RESI) comprises a diverse group of experienced economists and research assistants. As a leading expert on Maryland's economy, RESI works with state agencies, non-profit organizations and private-sector firms. Services that add breadth, depth, and value to any project include: Economic Analyses and Forecasting, Economic Impact Studies, Fiscal Impact Analyses, Cost of Services Analyses, Statistical Analyses, Workforce and Commuter Analyses, Survey Analyses, and Base Realignment and Closing (BRAC) Analyses and Recommendations.


Salisbury University

The Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative (ESRGC) is an organization that seeks to provide access to geographic information system (GIS) technology, data, technical support, and training to the local governments of Maryland's Eastern Shore. As an outreach entity of Salisbury University, the ESRGC is a joint effort between the Mid-Shore Regional Council, the Tri-County Council of the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland and the University.

BEACON, The Business Economic and Community Outreach Network of the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business at Salisbury University offers business, economic, workforce, and community development consulting and assistance services to a variety of organizations, including businesses, government agencies, and non-profit community-based organizations. BEACON's dual mission is to provide Perdue School students with a wide variety of experiential learning opportunities, and to provide our region's public and private sector decision-makers with a full range of business and economic development resources. BEACON offers targeted outreach programs, applied research, trend and scenario analyses, demand forecasting, strategic planning, feasibility studies, and modeling for resource allocation, process improvement, and economic impact studies.
